Legend of the Fairy Pond
The legend of Ao Tien is deeply rooted in local culture, evoking themes of magic, love, and loss.
The Lumberjack in Love and the Mischievous Fairy
Not so long ago, in a small village hidden in the woods, lived a lumberjack unlike any other. He was a really nice guy but a bit unlucky in love. All the local girls found him too simple, too quiet.
One day, while he was sawing wood like crazy, a cute little deer sought refuge under his pile of branches. To thank the woodsman for saving him, the deer ped a bombshell: "Hey, you know, in the evenings, fairies come to bathe in the pond right nearby! They are so beautiful!"
Intrigued, our lumberjack decides to test this information. And there, what a surprise! In the middle of the night, girls in shimmering dresses emerge from the water, each more beautiful than the last. But it's especially a little fairy with silver hair that captivates him.
To talk to her, our young man has a brilliant idea (or rather not very clever): he hides the fairy's clothes! So, she is stuck, and he can finally tell her how beautiful she is. The fairy, surprised but touched by his kindness, agrees to stay with him.
They live happily for a while, have two beautiful children (a bit human-fairy mix, quite funny!) but one day, the fairy's health deteriorates. She explains to her lumberjack husband that she is immortal in her realm, but on Earth, she is mortal. To save her, she needs to find her magical clothes.
After searching everywhere, the lumberjack finally finds his fairy's dress in a bush. Unfortunately, this means that his wife must return to her world. With heavy hearts, they bid farewell, promising never to forget each other.
And since that day, the pond where it all began has become a magical place, where lovers come to promise each other eternal fidelity, in memory of a lumberjack and his fairy.
