Ba Be National Park in Spring

Born around 200 million years ago in the heart of majestic limestone cliffs, Ba Be Lake stands out as Vietnam's largest natural lake. The eighth national park in the country, covering nearly a hundred square kilometers, Ba Be is a region of stunning beauty where limestone mountains covered in lush vegetation are reflected in the emerald waters of the lake.

A multifaceted natural gem

Ba Be Lake, also known as "Slam Pé" in the local language due to its three distinct basins, ranks among the hundred largest freshwater lakes in the world. Stretching over nine kilometers long and one kilometer wide, it is fed by the Nang, Ta Han, and Nam Cuong rivers. The Nang River flows into the lake through the spectacular Dau Dang waterfall, creating a striking natural tableau.
In the middle of this vast expanse of water emerge three green islets – An Ma, Khau Cum, and Po Gia Mai – accessible by canoe, inviting exploration and escape. These islets seem to float like emeralds on the water mirror of the lake.

Exceptional biodiversity

Between dense primary forests and islands with abundant vegetation, the park harbors remarkable biodiversity. A total of 620 tree species and 422 animal species coexist in this natural sanctuary. Spring, which extends from February to April, is particularly conducive to observing this ecological richness as nature awakens after the cooler months.

A living cultural heritage

The shores of the lake are home to picturesque stilt houses of the Tay ethnic group, the majority in the region. During your hikes in the park, you will also encounter the Nung, Dao, Kinh, and Hmong, the four other ethnic groups who have made their home around this natural gem. Their traditions, customs, and craftsmanship enrich the visitor's experience, offering an authentic cultural immersion.

Spring at Ba Be: an ideal season

If neither cold nor heat are your allies, then spring is the perfect time to explore this natural treasure. From February to April, the climate becomes mild and pleasant, with temperate temperatures inviting outdoor activities. The vegetation, revitalized by the ambient humidity, then displays all its splendor, dotting the landscapes with colorful blooms.
Misty mornings gradually give way to bright days where the sun sparkles on the lake waters. It is also during this season that wildlife becomes more active, providing beautiful observation opportunities for nature enthusiasts.
