Hanoi - Ba Be Lake ~240 km (L, D)
You will be collected from your hotel at 07:30. Before you hit the road, you will spend about 30 minutes with your guide checking over the bikes and equipment. Today, there is not much to see en route, although this will be a great opportunity for you to test your biking abilities and get a feel for your bike (Russian Minsk). You will drive through Thai Nguyen City, moving through many other timeless villages linked to the road, which is the main artery of trade between the Northeast region and the capital, Hanoi. You will stop for lunch on the way. Depending on the traffic conditions, you should arrive in Ba Be about midday. After a morning of driving, you can relax on a boat trip on Ba Be Lakes. After you visit Widow island and An Ma Islands, you will finish the boat trip at Bo Lu Village where you will be welcomed by your Tay host family. You will have free time then to have a shower and take a walk around the village before dinner. You will spend the night here in Ba Be.
Ba Be - Tinh Tuc - Bao Lac ~ 178km (B, L, D)
Today's drive will be of medium difficulty as you break into the more mountainous regions of the north. You will take on the sloping roads on the way to Bao Lac, driving through the mountains and enjoying the wonderful sights of the local villages. Lunch will be served en route at a local restaurant, after which you will continue the journey to Bao Lac, arriving at the town in the late afternoon. After checking in at a hotel, you will have time to shower and rest before dinner.
Bao Lac - Meo Vac - Dong Van ~ 96 km (B. L, D)
After breakfast, you will depart from Meo Vac and continue your journey to Ha Giang. Today you will have the opportunity to see some amazing landscapes so don’t forget your camera! The route climbs over a pass and then down into the breathtaking landscape of Meo Vac Valley, situated very close to the Chinese border. During this trip, you will be surrounded by many geological wonders, and you will also have the chance to visit the traditional houses of the indigenous ethnic minority groups. You will stop for lunch in Meo Vac Town before climbing over the Ma Pi Leng Pass to see the wonderful mountain ranges and the Nho Que River. Travelling along this winding mountain pass will fill you with an immense sense of freedom and awe at the beauty of this region. The journey continues on to the remote town of Dong Van where you will stay the night. Here you will see the centuries old houses of the H’mong people.
Dong Van - Yen Minh - Quan Ba - Ha Giang ~ 150 km (B, L, D)
After a leisurely drive from Dong Van, back to Yen Minh and Quan Ba, the rest of the drive on this day will be at a steady pace. You will visit the infamous Vuong Palace, once inhabited by a H'mong family of high rank during French colonial rule - this palace attracts keen interest from architecturally minded visitors due to its mixed style of European and Chinese architecture. You will then hit the road back to Quan Ba and descend into Ha Giang for the night.
Note: it is worth arranging a visit to Quan Ba Sunday market if you can.
Ha Giang - Hoang Su Phi - Bac Ha ~ 209km (B, L, D)
Today, you will take the long but stunning scenic road from Ha Giang to Bac Ha. Today will be a little busier, and some parts of the road might be difficult to travel so be sure to depart early from Ha Giang in order to arrive at Bac Ha before it gets dark. You will have dinner and stay the night in Bac Ha Town.
Note: The road from Ha Giang to Hoang Su Phi then Xin Man – Bac Ha can be too difficult to ride during the rainy season, so a backup travel option to Bac Ha has already planned.
Bac Ha - Sapa ~ 120km (L)
You will have this morning free in Bac Ha to roam around and explore, If you are lucky and this day falls on a Sunday, you will have the added bonus of visiting the Sunday Market. In the afternoon, you will drive roughly three hours to Sapa where you will have free time to explore the town before spending the night here.
Explore Around Sapa - Night Train To Hanoi (B)
Today, we suggest that you ride downhill to a village and leave your bike there while you trek to the nearby villages of Ta Phin or Ta Van to meet the local people and learn more about the customs and traditions of their cultures. In the late afternoon, you will ride to Lao Cai Train Station (1,5h) where the bikes will be loaded on the train before you have some free time to arrange your own dinner in Lao Cai. The train leaves at 20:15 and will arrive in Hanoi at around 05:00 the next morning. The tour will end back at your hotel.
